Fluid Science joins GAMBICA

Fluid Science has long provided pure water and pure water systems to the food and drink sector, laboratories, engineering, and aerospace companies. Now, we are entering a new chapter — after supplying fine and trade chemicals for a number of years. Fluid Science is branching out to provide lab grade solutions for a wide range of sectors including cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and diagnostics.

Helping to drive this evolution is Asdaq Hussain, who joined the company last year as Products and Project Manager. Asdaq brings considerable experience of the lab industry to his role, having previously worked at a leading biotech industry provider in the north west — a company whose profile soared during the pandemic when it secured contracts to supply COVID-19 tests to the Scottish and Welsh governments.

Science and healthcare have always been close to Asdaq’s heart. Both of his parents are doctors, and he initially studied medicine himself before moving into medical microbiology and then pursuing a master’s in regenerative medicine and stem cell research – a field he remains passionate about.

The goal is ambitious: to grow Fluid Science from a supplier of de-ionised water and chemicals into a more broadly based diagnostics company, with a strong presence in infectious disease testing and a reputation for innovation. We now supply culture media, reagents, and buffers to diagnostic firms — and our ultra-pure water systems and water supply, currently popular with aerospace, industrial manufacturing, cosmetics companies and the food & beverage industry, are starting to gain interest from electrophoresis labs and testing facilities.

One standout product is the Fluid Ultra Type 1 Water, our ultrapure sterile water offering. This high-grade sterile water is specifically produced for use in critical, high-end laboratories, where consistency and purity are non-negotiable. Our investment in fast, reliable delivery has helped us earn a strong reputation for responsiveness, particularly among customers in diagnostics and pharmaceutical research, who are used to longer lead times.

Future growth will depend in part on finding the right channel partners. “In the first year, we formed distribution partnerships with three companies whose products we believed in,” says Asdaq. “Next year, I’d like to double that.”

As previously mentioned, we are expanding through strategic collaborations — including an exciting new partnership with De Montfort University (DMU). Together, we are working to develop greener, more affordable anti-cancer compounds by reducing the cost and complexity of creating chemotherapy drugs. The project is backed by a significant injection of funds into R&D, underscoring our enthusiasm for innovation and commitment to becoming a key player in life sciences. This collaboration, announced earlier this year, highlights our dedication to pushing scientific boundaries and supporting research with tangible, real-world health benefits. “This is exactly the kind of forward-thinking, values-led work we want to do more of,” says Asdaq.

So what’s next for Fluid Science? We’ve already got a number of venture partners, but we’re always looking for more.
One reason for joining GAMBICA was to take advantage of its revitalised Tender Alert Service (TAS). With our product portfolio now considerably broader, having access to information on tenders — who’s buying, who’s bidding, and how much contracts are worth — is invaluable. It also opens the door to new opportunities, helping us to raise our profile with procurement teams who may be more familiar with bigger, established names in the field.

“Our aim is to become a well-known lab supplier here in the UK,” says Asdaq. “We want to be front of mind for pathologists and researchers working with AST discs. It’s about making sure people across England — and eventually Ireland — know what we have to offer. And of course, that would also give me more reasons to head back home for a visit!”

While the immediate focus remains on building a strong UK presence, international growth is also on the horizon. With strong stockholding, fast delivery, an expanding portfolio — and now, university-backed research collaborations — Fluid Science is positioning itself not just as a supplier, but as a science-driven partner in diagnostics, chemistry, and healthcare innovation.
